Situated above a renovated 19th Century townhouse bar and restaurant, popular with locals and visitors alike, Billy Byrnes is a comfortable family-run bed & breakfast just a five minute stroll from the heart of historic Kilkenny city. Billy Byrnes is one of Kilkenny’s most famous public houses, more of a social club than a bar and a popular meeting place for locals young and old with a reputation for good beer, good food and a warm welcome. We like to keep things relaxed and informal, and as one of our guests, you’ll be automatically granted ‘local’ status! Whether you’re looking for a bit of local colour, some top quality live music, or just a quiet corner to read the paper, you’ll find it here.
During the day, Billy Byrnes main bar is a big, bright, welcoming space where you can eat breakfast and lunch, check your e-mail, or just meet friends and linger over coffee. At night, the bar fills up with a mixture of locals and visitors, hipsters and sports stars, and to all of them, we serve a wide selection of craft beers and spirits from Kilkenny and further afield. Out the back, there’s a dedicated live music room, and a funky beer garden furnished with rescued sofas and home-made tables, like a beach bar in the middle of the city! There’s even an old double-decker bus, converted to a kitchen, serving tasty street food from around the world and a real wood-fired oven turning out fresh, authentic pizzas.
Away from the bustle, tucked away upstairs, we have 6 quiet, comfortable, newly refurbished rooms, all en-suite with TV, tea and coffee making facilities and best of all, your own secret stair-case that leads straight back to one of the city’s most popular public houses!
